This site is a page about a musician and a form for asking him to play. It has no accounts and no database, and it counts visits without cookies. Most of what follows is what it doesn't do.
Who we are
This site belongs to Dan Magay, who is the data controller for everything described here. Pchol Kollektiv builds and maintains it for him.
Questions about any of this go to info at danmagaymusic dot com, which reaches Dan.
What we collect
From reading the site: a visit count. The page viewed, the site you came from, your browser, device type, screen size, language and approximate location (country, region and city). Visits are counted with Umami, which runs on a server of our own rather than an analytics company's. It also counts what happens on the page: which sections are reached, how far down it's scrolled, which buttons and links are pressed (including the tracks played and the bio downloaded), and, when a booking is sent, the choices picked from its menus - type of event, format, audience size, budget. Never your name, your email address or anything you type. It sets no cookie and doesn't store your IP address, and a visit isn't linked to your name or to anything you send.
The site sets no cookies of its own and stores nothing in your browser.
The booking form sends what you type straight to Dan: your name, your email address or phone number, the details of the gig and anything else you add. Nothing is sent until you press send.
That, and anything you later email, is the only personal information we hold.
Why, and on what basis
To read your message and reply, and to arrange a booking if there is one. Under the UK GDPR that is either our legitimate interest in replying to you, or steps taken before a contract, depending on where the conversation goes.
Visits are counted to learn which parts of the site are read, what people come for and how they find it. The basis is Dan's legitimate interest in running it (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR).
We don't profile anyone, sell anything, or add you to a mailing list you didn't ask for.
Who else touches it
Five others are involved:
- Google Fonts. The typefaces come from Google. Your browser fetches them from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, so Google sees your IP address. It sets no cookies for this.
- SoundCloud. The tracks play through SoundCloud's embedded player, which only loads when you press play. SoundCloud may then set cookies or record the play, under its own privacy policy. We don't see any of it.
- Netlify. It hosts the site and receives the booking form. It keeps each enquiry until it is deleted and emails it on to Dan.
- The provider that hosts the visit statistics. Pchol Kollektiv runs Umami on a rented server (Railway), which holds the visit records described above.
- The domain registrar. It receives mail sent to the address above and forwards it to Dan's inbox, so it handles those messages on the way.
Links to Spotify, YouTube, Facebook, Discogs and others are ordinary links. Once you follow one, that site's own policy applies.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept for two years, then deleted.
Visit statistics are kept for as long as the site runs. A visit record holds no name, contact detail or IP address.
If a booking happens, its paperwork is kept as long as tax rules require.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You can also object to us keeping it. Write to the address above and you'll get a reply within a month.
If you think we've handled something badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Security, and the honest limit of it
The site is static files. There's no login and no database of ours. Form enquiries sit in Netlify's account for the site, behind its sign-in.
Email itself isn't private in transit, and once your message arrives it's only as safe as the mailbox holding it. If something is sensitive, don't put it in a first message to a saxophonist.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children and doesn't knowingly collect anything from them. When Dan teaches anyone under 18, it's arranged directly with a parent or school, not through this site.
Changes
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes too, and we'll say what changed.
